While there have been giant steps in major jurisdictions to abate these challenges from courts, laws in most developing countries still remain wanting in many respects. In africa, where arbitration is still in its rudimentary stages, not only are the courts' resistance to the arbitration process very conspicuous and acute, arbitration legislations have also left much to be desired when compared with laws in major jurisdictions. This treatise extensively analyses the scope of arbitrators' jurisdiction under the Ethiopian Civil Code of 1960 with respect to doctrines adopted under modern international arbitration laws and proffers recommendations that would make Ethiopia's arbitration process smooth, reliable and attractive to Ethiopians and foreign businesses.
