The author uses words, language, and photographs that children can relate to and find comfort in. The story's main character is Cody who is a lovable and comforting dog who goes to the vet for an appointment. His vet shows him an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor which he immediately falls in love with and learns how to use. Cody wears his new technology proudly and learns he can still do everything he did before. The author uses photographs that she took herself to show warmth, compassion, and a special personal touch by using her dog.

Autor

Amanda King, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on September 3, 1993 and currently lives in St. Charles, MO. She will never forget the overwhelming feeling she had as she was being admitted to St. Louis Children's Hospital. If Amanda felt this way at 14 years old, what about those children who are too young to understand the what and why of Diabetes. She saw the need for a book that explained Diabetes on the appropriate age and developmental level for a young child and decided to fill that need. The first book was a huge success and Cody helped children gain a better understanding of their diagnosis and brought them comfort. Amanda and Cody decided another book was needed to help children feel brave and wear their insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors proudly.

Amanda has her graduate degree in Early Childhood Special Education and loves teaching and learning from her students. She believes that reading is one of the most important parts of learning and books are not only educational but can also provide comfort and support.
