The book focuses on the cocoa industry of Ghana from the perspective of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). Much of the discussions of the cocoa industry have centred on the economics and of socio-political dynamics that have shaped the industry to its present state. However, the analysis of the scientific and technological inputs in sustaining the cocoa industry is very important. In the last 20 years successive governments have implemented a number of interventions, which have led to a significant increase in cocoa production. The government still aims at getting one million tonnes by the year 2020. The key to improving on the success rate is to strengthen the STI base of the policy formulation and implementation and ensure better stakeholder participation especially on the part of the farmers. This book is of interest to scholars and students of diverse disciplines, workers in development and general readers especially those in the cocoa industry and other cocoa-producing countries.
