Currently, there are only loosely defined guidelines and regulations for hospital cleaning, which are developed by hospital hygiene teams in accordance with basic hygiene principles. In Austria, the Hospital Act regulates almost exclusively the procedures for necessary disinfection activities, but not the cleaning itself. This study aims to investigate whether an ecological and economical cleaning method that complies with the most important hygiene requirements is feasible. This would provide healthcare facility operators and service providers with a reliable way of establishing precisely defined cleaning guidelines. It should be possible to clean patient rooms and corridors hygienically and safely with little or no use of chemicals. The evaluation of the cleaning results should demonstrate compliance with hygiene regulations and a reduction in germs, including visual cleaning success. This would prove that the methods are suitable for hospitals! It is important here to ensure long-term germ reduction despite the reduced use of cleaning solutions.
