This book overviews current advances in chitosan-based drug delivery systems, focusing on fabrication technology, methods, and applications. Chitosan, a renewable polysaccharide obtained by chitin deacetylation, is suitable as a biodegradable matrix for the production of different drug delivery systems owing to its biocompatibility, bio adhesive, antibacterial activity, haemostatic action, adsorption, properties, and functional capabilities. The current research trends are to continue innovative modifications of chitosan derivatives, nanotechnologies, stimuli-responsive delivery, and theragnostic techniques to improve promising chitosan-based drug delivery systems. This book is intended for scientists, researchers, and industrialists who are working on chitosan and chitosan-based drug delivery systems in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biomedical science, biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, and material engineering.

Autor

Dr. Sougata Jana is a B. Pharm (Gold Medalist) from West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), Kolkata, M. Pharm (Pharmaceutics) from Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) & Ph.D form Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal (Formerly Known as WBUT), India. He received, “M.N Dev Memorial Award” for securing the highest marks in the state of West Bengal in the year 2005 from IPA Bengal branch, Kolkata, India. He has been engaged for 18 years in the field of pharmacy including teaching, research and health services etc. He received ‘Best Poster Presentation Award’ at 21st West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress-2014, Burdwan, and “Outstanding Paper Award” at 1st Regional Science and Technology Congress-2016, Bardhaman Division, organized by DST, Govt. of West Bengal & Bankura Christan College, West Bengal, India. He published above 40 research and review articles in different national and international peer reviewed journals.  He has edited 14 books for Springer, Elsevier and Wiley and published more than 50 book chapters in different edited books from Elsevier, Springer, Wiley VCH, CRC Press, Taylor & Francis group. He is the reviewer for various peer reviewed international journals of Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Taylor and Francis, Dove Press etc. He is a life member of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) and Associateship from Institution of Chemists (AIC), India. He successfully guided 17 postgraduate students for their research projects. He is working in the field of drug delivery science and technology including modification of synthetic and natural biopolymers, microparticles, nanoparticles, semisolids and interpenetrating network (IPN) systems for controlled drug delivery.
