It was introduced as a concept vehicle at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. It was announced at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show that the Orlando would go into production in the US along with the Chevrolet Spark. In August 2009, at its extended product review, GM previewed the production-spec Orlando and confirmed its production. GM is expected to sell a similar car under the GMC brand as the Granite.
