Climate change by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, has led to increase attention to the carbon sequestration through the restoration and protection of vegetation cover. In this regard, ecosystems of arid regions have a special importance. According to the Tokyo Protocol, a participatory model of carbon sequestration projects was implemented with the aim of reducing greenhouse gases in developing countries, including Iran. The International Carbon Sequestration Project addresses issues related to natural resources, carbon sequestration and green space development, and the conservation of natural resources with the full participation of local people. All of world countries including Islamic Republic of Iran have to control their carbon dioxide emissions in near future. Capture and storage of carbon dioxide may be considered as a recent technology to reduce greenhouse emissions resulted from human industrial activities. As the rate of carbon dioxide production is always greater than its rate of consumption, enormous amounts of unused carbon dioxide have to be stored in high capacity reservoirs.
