An automatic tool planning process is highly desirable for tool trajectory planning of industrial robots. Generating a robot tool trajectory in manufacturing application is a complex task as it involves considering many parameters simultaneously. Tool trajectory estimation for a free form surface by an offline programming methodology for the robot, based on a computer-aided design model of a part, the tool model, task constraints, and optimization criteria is done.
