It is one of 110 public community colleges in the state of California. The college opened in 1959. Cabrillo College currently has an enrollment of more than 17,000 students. As is true with most community colleges, the vast majority of its students attend part-time. As of spring 2009, the college is experiencing record enrollment so much so that classes are at 95% capacity.
