Every spring, I ordered painted lady caterpillars for students to observe the metamorphosis process while teaching pre-kindergarten. I stocked my classroom with books about butterflies, formed stations about butterflies, and hung pictures of butterflies. I did anything and everything to get the kids excited about the concept of a life cycle. However, I found that most books available about butterflies were wordy and filled with too much information for my pre-k students.
