Although the landmines he must now dodge are more figurative than literal, including some romantic complications, the chalk-outlined bodies emerge more often than hopscotch grids on the city’s South Side. With his gruff new partner watching his every move, the neophyte investigator sets out to even the odds in Chicago’s mean streets. A veteran of the military and law enforcement communities, author Don Miskel chooses the Windy City as his locale for Brandywine’s debut trilogy, which he brings alive with authenticity and wit. Don’s unique imagination spun this tale of real life into existence; you’ll hear the music, smell the epicurean offerings, and turn the pages as Don’s diction fully entertains. Popular graphic artist Benjamin Mackey, who is known for co-creating the Saints comic series, designed the cover and inside illustrations. The paperback version features a B&W full-page depiction of the drama for each story, in addition to the colorful cover.
