Dance was established as an art form through classical ballet in the 17th century, but it was after the development of modern dance in the mid-20th century that contemporary dance emerged. Given the years of existence of ballet and the maturing of contemporary dance, this research investigated the reasons for the public's preference for classical ballet in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
