HIS make information available quickly, easily and securely, reduce the time spent on records and promote continuity of care. The implementation of HIS in healthcare institutions should be carried out progressively and with the involvement of nursing professionals. Currently, health information systems are an indispensable source of support for decision-making and clinical practice, helping to increase knowledge, safety and efficiency in the healthcare process (Pinto, 2009; Mota, 2010; Guedes, 2011).
