Joaquin Arnett and the Bean Bandits attended their first meet in 1984. Four days at the World of Speed chronicles the Bean Bandits racing club's 1997 assault on the land speed record of 409 mph, two years after the tragic death of Sonny Arnett, the club's leader, and the eldest son of legendary Drag Racing Hall of Famer Joaquin Arnett. Although Sonny's death, while preparing for the Bean Bandits' 1997 attempt, led to the disbanding of the club. It would also serve as the impetus for the club's reunion as they made a solemn pledge "to do it for Sonny." As his replacement, Jeff Arnett, his younger brother, will also tempt fate during the Four Days at the World of Speed.
