The ACC reports to the Minister for Home Affairs, is an entity of the Attorney-General's Department portfolio, and is accountable to and monitored and reviewed by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Australian Crime Commission.The Commission has its origins with the April 2002 Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Leaders Summit which agreed that a new national framework was needed to meet the challenges of combating terrorism and multi-jurisdictional crime.
