Assessment of Safe motherhood programme in Edo state Nigeria is a study carried out to assess the Safe Motherhood Programme in Edo State. Identify factors that would be used as tools for strengthening the Safe Motherhood Programme with a view to achieving the Safe Motherhood Programme goal of reducing maternal mortality. Related literature reviewed on the topic revealed that Safe Motherhood is the ability of a woman to have a safe, healthy pregnancy and childbirth. The literature revealed that Safe Motherhood Programme study has not been fully investigated in Nigeria of which Edo State is a microcosm. It also revealed that the actual health care programme and services to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria are not commensurate with the many policies introduced since 1998.

Ikhioya ,Grace Olohiomeru is a senior lecturer with the Ambrose Alli University,Ekpoma,Edo State,Nigeria in the Department of Health Education.She obtained her bachelor and master degrees from the university of Benin,Benin City and her Ph.D.degree from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.She is a distinguished, modest and pro-active personality.
