Two kingdoms. A rebel faction. Overwhelming odds. The Annar have long been assailed by the slave kingdom next door, but with General Sain of the Annar heading the charge, they have held them at bay. When a prophesized babe is saved from a fiery attack and adopted by the General, he's thrust into a life of God-chosen warriors, rife with betrayal and chaos. Whilst the General and his oldest son move to eradicate a rebel group, his two younger sons strive to train and find their place within the infamous Sain guard. An alarming revelation, traitors around every bend. Will the Sain guard be able to weather the storm? Or will the slave kingdom of the Kerazar finally gain a foothold in the lands they covet? The story follows two brothers, who are caught up in a war that has been years in the making. A rebel faction destroyed the town of Saternac, and our main protagonist Balzor is saved from the attack by the General of the Annar, who is there when a Seeress of great renown utters a prophecy, naming Balzor a chosen one, born in fire. The general, Aldred, raises him amongst his own sons, and eventually goes off to hunt the rebels who attacked them in the past, with his eldest son Alnor. When they both leave, Balzor and the other brother, Alkor, begin their training in earnest, doing their best to prove themselves worthy of the blade. But the town is once again attacked, a betrayal by those closest to them, and a more insidious plan is uncovered; one that threatens the very kingdom itself, and one that starts right at the top of the food chain. Meanwhile, Aldred and Alnor meet up with the royal party on the road, and Alnor quickly befriends the young Prince Krinar, doting on him and believing every word uttered from his mouth, to Aldred's annoyance. Krinar closely monitors the growing tension between father and son, escalating it to his needs and bringing more and more of the younger groups over to his side, poised and ready to do his bidding. It all comes to a head when they find the rebel group, and it is uncovered that it has been Krinar all along that has been sowing discord within the realm, aiming to take the throne before his time, and let the treacherous slave kingdom of the Kerazar through the border to pillage.
