Women face multi-faceted challenges when participating in leadership positions due to different factors. This research examines factors affecting women's participation in leadership positions and the possibilities of advancing their participation. This thesis is based on the fact that there are fewer female leaders than male leaders in the Ethiopia and Woliata zone public institutions. The study aimed to assess factors hampering women's participation in leadership positions and examine the challenges women face in their struggle to achieve leadership positions in Wolaita Zone public institutions. In so doing, primary and secondary data were obtained through questionnaires, focus group discussions, and reviews of print documents from various sources. Multistage sampling techniques were also employed to select respondents from the study population. The study's findings depict that women are highly underrepresented in higher-level positions due to political factors, followed by government policies and organizational barriers contributing to the representation of women in leadership positions. Finally, recommendations were made to improve women's participation in the multi-sectoral agenda.
