This thesis provides an analysis of the recent Marine Corps intelligence community growth and development. Since Operation Desert Storm, the Marine Corps intelligence community has dramatically reshaped itself in order to both maintain its relevance and to adapt to the battlefield of today. This paper first examines a brief history of how Marine Corps intelligence got to where it is currently. That history is followed by an analysis of the four officer intelligence Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs), specifically Human Intelligence, Ground Intelligence, Signals Intelligence, and Air Intelligence. The analysis of these intelligence disciplines provides present day snapshots of the status of each of the MOSs along with recommendations for improvements for the future. The goal of this thesis is to provide the Marine Corps intelligence community with some food for thought in regard to overcoming the challenges that lie ahead. The ongoing Global War on Terrorism has forced the intelligence community to adapt to survive. It is essential that Marine Corps intelligence professionals remain flexible in this turbulent time and develop a plan of action to lead the community into the future.
