In this coming-of-age family saga, seventeen-year-old Melania Harvey happily moves to Minneapolis with her parents when they secure employment at a large flour mill-the location distancing her from the unwanted attention of the charming Jim Wirth. She plans to attend college soon and vows that neither the war nor a man will derail her goals. After Congress enacts the Espionage Act, it's not long before Minnesota's ultra-nationalist efforts to root out the enemy press in from all sides, especially for those of German heritage.
