His refusal to cease preaching without official sanction led to his arrest and a twelve-year imprisonment. During this time, he penned Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, a spiritual autobiography detailing his religious experiences and struggles.Following his release, Bunyan continued his ministry and writing, producing The Pilgrim's Progress in 1678, which achieved immediate acclaim and has since become a classic of English literature. He remained an influential figure in his community until his death in 1688, leaving behind a legacy of profound religious writings that continue to inspire readers worldwide.
