There was just one problem: Poland didn't exist. Poland was under the rule of the Russian Czar. Being Polish during this time was anything but easy. The Polish people were not allowed to speak in Polish. Women were not allowed to attend universities. Despite these obstacles Maria completed high school at the age of fifteen with the highest honors and a gold medal. Madame Curie was a great scientist. To continue her education Maria moved to Paris France. There she changed her name to Marie, and met Pierre Curie. They fell in love and were married.
