It has a Circum-Mediterranean distribution and is found along the coasts of France, Ireland, England and the Arabian Peninsula. In Africa, it is found as far south as South Africa.The wingspan is 35-42 mm. Adults are on wing in September to April. There is one generation per year. The larvae feed on the roots of various herbaceous plants, including Taraxacum and Polygonum.
