They are activities that should not be seen only as part of school and university activities, but as processes that we will develop throughout our lives, even if we are not involved in a profession or academic activity. Both processes allow us not only to acquire and generate new knowledge, but also to develop as human beings through the recognition not only of ourselves, but also of our feelings, ideas, thoughts, ways of seeing life through the narratives we can read or that which we can express through writing. In both processes of reading and writing, the development of comprehension plays a very important role. These are some of the reasons why it is important to foster a taste for reading and writing in adolescents in any community. In the following paper, some of the reasons why it is considered important to develop adolescents into independent readers and writers will be discussed.
