It’s the way I relax, because painful memories are always there. When the war broke out on September 1, 1939, I was only two years old. Consequently, I needed to depend upon my mom’s recollections for many of the details provided in this memoir. Some of the events were so traumatic that even though I was a child then, they’ve engraved themselves on my consciousness.
