In analyzing different news reporting styles of similar topic in juxtaposition with the use of linguistic devices has revealed that journalists use encoded language of incantation to foster their own political agenda; in that, language is used to manipulate readers into drawing certain conclusions. Systemic Functional Grammar provides the discursive tools to decode and decontextualize any written discourse (e.g., news). This book is divided into two parts. The first half introduces and explains Systemic Functional Grammar and its metalanguages. The second half of the book is dedicated to employing these functions to two online news articles of the same register, field and tenor but of different lexico-grammar. Consequently, this metafunctional typology suggests that novice readers should be oriented with text-analyzing tools to aid them in decoding news text (or any text similar in nature) in order to be less susceptible to news agencies' propaganda and political control and thusmaking the content of critical reading more translucent to the reader.
