In his book, Jean Dausset recounts the story of his discovery and introduces the reader to other fascinating aspects of his life and work. After World War II, he opened La Galerie du Dragon, an art gallery which would became a major venue for avant-garde artists (the Surrealists, Jean Dubuffet, Jackson Pollock, among others). Dausset was also one of the driving forces bhind the reform of France's teaching hospitals, which ultimately resulted in the existing public health service.
