A Man and His Horse is the story of a young intellectual, Wen Bo, who is forced to flee Beijing during the Cultural Revolution. Exiled to a remote area of Inner Mongolia, he finds solace in a unique kind of love that he establishes with a feisty black horse. This autobiographical novel is based on the real-life experiences of a Beijing physician.

Autor

Xie Wenwei, born in the same year as the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, was raised in Beijing before being sent to Inner Mongolia in 1969. At the end of the Cultural Revolution, he attended Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and after graduation was admitted to the Beijing Red Cross Chaoyang Hospital. In 1984 he went to the US to study and then work. A dozen years later he returned to China and founded the Beijing Oriental Cancer Research Centre. He is currently an expert advisor at Beijing Puxiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Cancer Hospital. Xie has published more than 10 books, including A TCM Doctor in the United States and My Mother Li Ruifen.
