He is an organizer and former director of The Science Bag, a series of public science programs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee-a series that started in 1973 and is still continuing in 2020. He is the author of other books: "Rainbows, Halos, and Glories", "Chasing the Rainbow", and "Outside My Window: A Look at an Urban Nature Preserve". Greenler's scientific credentials are in physics, but he also has a lifelong interest in the natural world of plants and animals. A recurring point of view in much of his writing and public education programs is the search for the story behind the immediate visual impression-an attempt to see with the mind as well as the eye.
