The complete, original text of Charles Dickens's classic novella, A Christmas Carol, with 100 reflections to help readers appreciate the work more fully and apply Dickens's timeless spiritual themes to their own lives. Perfect to read during the season of Advent in preparation for Christmas. This annotated edition of "A Christmas Carol" includes: 1. * Explanations of historical context * Literary comments and analyses * Citations from Biblical and other contemporary literary sources The novella is broken down into 100 sections that range in length from a brief paragraph to a page or two of A Christmas Carol. Each section contains some phrase or sentence that provides the subject for the accompanying reflection. The reflections presuppose that the reader is at least vaguely familiar with the basic plot. If you have never heard of Scrooge, Tiny Tim, or A Christmas Carol, please be advised that some of the interspersed commentary contains spoilers. I wrote the reflections from my own Christian (Lutheran) perspective, but I hope the reader keeps an open mind and finds them illuminating irrespective of prior religious outlook. If nothing else, lovers of literature will appreciate the close attention paid to the details of Dickens's writing.
