3792 Preston (1985 FA) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on March 22, 1985 by E. Shoemaker and C. Shoemaker at Palomar. It was named for author Richard Preston, who wrote a book about Carolyn Shoemaker. Asteroids (from Greek 'star' and 'like, in form') are a class of Small Solar System Bodies in orbit around the Sun.
