Gioconda Belli, geb. in in Managua, studierte in Spanien und den USA. Ab 1970 beteiligte sie sich am Widerstand der Sandinistischen Befreiungsfront FSLN gegen die Somoza-Diktatur ihres Landes. Sie lebt in Managua und Los Angeles/USA.
