Also alles wieder beim Alten? Mitnichten, denn so einfach lässt sich das Rad der Zeit natürlich nicht
zurückdrehen, und egal, ob man das wahrhaben will oder nicht: SAGA werden Zeitlebens an Ihrem…mehrWas gut ist, kommt wieder. Unter diesem Motto könnte man Michael Sadlers Rückkehr zu SAGA vor gut eineinhalb Jahren und die Veröffentlichung des nunmehr 20. Studioalbums der Kanadier zusammenfassen. Also alles wieder beim Alten? Mitnichten, denn so einfach lässt sich das Rad der Zeit natürlich nicht zurückdrehen, und egal, ob man das wahrhaben will oder nicht: SAGA werden Zeitlebens an Ihrem frühen, Richtungsweisenden Wirken auf den ersten 5 Studioalben gemessen. Das mag natürlich unfair erscheinen, denn auch nach 1983 gibt es neben diversen Tiefpunkten auch genügend hochkarätige Veröffentlichungen im Backkatalog der Band. Und zu letzteren gesellt sich nun auch das neue Output "20/20", welches, soviel kann schon jetzt mit Sicherheit gesagt werden, das Zeug zum Bandklassiker hat. "20/20" bietet alles, was SAGA jemals ausgemacht hat, in komprimierter, fast schon verbesserter Form, auf den Punkt gebracht und mit einer umwerfenden Spielfreude dargeboten, so dass man fast versucht sein könnte zu glauben, hier handele es sich um eine junge, hungrige Band, und nicht um alte Hasen. Doch nicht nur das: SAGA haben gehörig an der Härteschraube gedreht, und das Songwriting gestaltet sich experimentierfreudiger, ausgefeilter und "progressiver" im eigentlichen Sinne des Wortes als noch auf den letzten Alben. Und das alles, ohne die für SAGA typische Leichtigkeit der Kompositionen oder das Gespür für griffige Arrangements zu verlieren. Es wäre vermessen, hier vom besten SAGA - Album zu sprechen, auch wenn man sich in den ersten Begeisterungsstürmen dazu verleitet sieht. Aber definitiv ist "20/20" ein überragendes Album, das ohne weiteres neben den Klassikern "Worlds Apart", "Images At Twilight" oder "The Security Of Illusion" bestehen wird.
