Aldous Huxley wurde 1894 in Godalming / Surrey geboren. Er wurde in Eton erzogen und studierte in Oxford. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg arbeitete er als Journalist und Kunstkritiker. Unter dem Einfluß der buddhistischen Lehre und der politischen Ereignisse in Europa entwickelte er sich in den dreißiger Jahren vom amüsiert beobachtenden Satiriker zum leidenschaftlichen Reformator, der die Welt durch eine universale mystische Religion zu heilen versucht. Huxley starb im Jahre 1963.
