The Wales national rugby union sevens team is the rugby sevens side for Welsh rugby union players. They currently compete in the IRB Sevens World Series, and in the Commonwealth Rugby Sevens Championships.Wales are the current World Cup Sevens Champions.The Welsh sevens squad was disbanded in 2002 due to the financial problems of the Welsh Rugby Union. After a three year absence, the Wales sevens team returned to international competition in the 2005-6 season.They competed at half of the 8 tournaments and won the plate competition(5th place) at each of them. They repeated this feat at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
