As a "transhistorical phenomenon" (Scholl), the Grotesque forms the basis for bridging the 17th to the 21st century and Spanish to Latin American literature. It is particularly the Grotesque in Spanish literature - less frequently explored by more recent literary research - that can provide many compelling examples for innumerable epochs and movements throughout literary history. This volume contains case studies from the Spanish Siglo de Oro (Golden Century) up to contemporary Latin American literature.
