Continuous development in the field of automotive engineering leads to a corresponding development in its terminology. For this reason the established three-language Dictionary for Automotive Engineering has been thoroughly reviewed and brought up-to-date. The new, fifth edition now includes some 2,400 headwords. The dictionary is arranged alphabetically in the order of the English terms. The English terms are followed by translations and short explanations of their meanings in French and German, thereby supplying the user with additional information explaining the technical context of each term. Each main headword is assigned to one of 44 technical fields â?? e.g. accessories, brakes, electronics, fuels & lubricants, ignition, safety, tools, wheels; this allows the user to identify immediately the sub-sector of automotive engineering to which a term belongs. The English headwords also list synonyms, which appear as cross-references to the main entries elsewhere in the alphabet. The German and French translations are arranged in order of their importance, with the most common ones usually listed first. Numerous schematic diagrams illustrate the technical details. Two indexes list the French and German terms in alphabetical order and refer to the relevant English headword in the main section. These two indexes can be used as complete bilingual dictionaries in their own right. The Index to Illustrations includes all the terms appearing in the diagrams.
