Dan Brown wurde am 22. Juni 1964 in New Hampshire, USA, geboren, wo er noch heute lebt. Viel gibt er nicht von seinem Privatleben preis, Interviews mit ihm sind eine absolute Seltenheit. Zunächst war Brown Englischlehrer von Beruf. Er spielt gerne Tennis, muss aber nach eigenen Angaben noch an der Rückhand arbeiten. Ein weiteres Hobby: Klavier spielen. Aber nicht das hat ihn weltweit so bekannt gemacht. Anno 1994 las er ein Buch von Sydney Sheldon und sagte sich: Das kann ich auch! Unter dem Titel "Diabolus" erschien Browns erstes Buch auf Deutsch. "Illuminati" und "Sakrileg" folgten, zuletzt "Symbol". Mit den Titeln katapultierte sich Dan Brown ganz nach oben in die Bestsellerlisten: Heute gehört er zu den Top Ten der meistverkauften Autoren. Was das Publikum begeistert? Die Thriller sind spannend, gut recherchiert und komponiert. Inzwischen kann man Browns Bücher in über 40 Sprachen lesen. Als literarische Vorbilder nennt er übrigens John Steinbeck, Robert Ludlum und William Shakespeare.
