Autorenporträt

Born in Jerusalem in 1939, Amos Oz was the internationally acclaimed author of many novels and essay collections, translated into over forty languages, including his brilliant semi-autobiographical work, A Tale of Love and Darkness. His last novel, Judas, was shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize 2017 and won the Yasnaya Polyana Foreign Fiction Award. He received several international awards, including the Prix Femina, the Israel Prize, the Goethe Prize, the Frankfurt Peace Prize and the 2013 Franz Kafka Prize. He died in December 2018.

Große Würfe

ZU DEN SCHÖNSTEN Entdeckungen jedes Lesers gehören Bücher, von denen er sich viel verspricht, die aber seine Erwartungen noch übertrumpfen. Die Ungarin Terézia Mora, Bachmann-Preisträgerin des Jahres 1999, veröffentlichte mit "Alle Tage" ihren ersten Roman. Mit Abel Nema erschafft sie einen Fremdling, dem so schöne wie schreckliche Dinge zustoßen, ohne daß er sich dadurch zu verändern scheint - doch die Lektüre verändert den Leser. Die Bühne der Weltliteratur betrat auch José Manuel Prieto, ein gebürtiger Kubaner russischen Gemüts, der in "Liwadija" mit den unergründlichen Wegen der Post jene des Gefühls besingt. Die Suche des Helden nach einer vollkommenen Sprache der Liebe gerät zu einem betörenden literarhistorischen Puzzle.

Selbst von dem bekanntesten israelischen Schriftsteller darf man eigentlich keine Meisterwerke am laufenden Band erwarten. Amos Oz' Schilderung jedoch, wie er als Junge die Geburt des Staates Israel, die Traumata seiner Familie und die Ehe seiner Eltern als "Geschichte von Liebe und Finsternis" erlebte, ist nicht nur eines der klügsten Bücher, die je über Israel geschrieben wurden, sondern auch der bewegendste Roman dieses Jahres.
