Produktbeschreibung
A comprehensive series of first-hand accounts of the War of Independence and Civil War in Kerry. Kerry, where the guerrilla campaign was most intense, saw many of the most vicious episodes in the War of Independence and the Civil War. Now, for the first time comes a comprehensive primary source of the experiences of the survivors of the Tan War and Civil War in Kerry as interviewed by Ernie O'Malley in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Many Republican survivors, who were reluctant to speak about these events generally, even to their own family, were willing to speak to O'Malley, as he was at the time the senior surviving Republican military commander from the period of those struggles. Transcribing O'Malley's notes and recordings, Cormac O'Malley and Tim Horgan have produced the only comprehensive first-hand account of controversial incidents (Ballyseedy, Headford Junction) and executions by the Free State forces by the survivors of those incidents.

Cormac O'Malley is the son of Ernie O'Malley, who died in 1957. He lives in New York city and is an international legal consultant working on many matters including inward investment into Ireland. Tim Horgan is from Tralee and is an ophthalmologist in Kerry General Hospital, Tralee. He is married to Ruth and they have four children and reside in Ballymacelligott. Tim's grandmother was secretary to both Ernie O'Malley and Liam Lynch.

Autorenporträt
Ernie O'Malley was a medical student in Dublin when the 1916 Rising broke out. Although initially indifferent, he soon came to sympathise with the Republican viewpoint and joined the Irish Volunteers, later to become the IRA. He quickly rose through the ranks and was soon organising the IRA around the country, reporting directly to Michael Collins and Richard Mulcahy.
