Those who crossed the British were jailed on prison ships in Wallabout Bay in Brooklyn, where an estimated eleven thousand people died of disease and starvation. Dr. Joanne Grasso is an adjunct assistant professor of history and political science, specializing as an Americanist in the American Revolution, among other areas. She teaches at area Long Island colleges and is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Society for Historians of the Early American Republic and the American Revolution Round Table in New York City.
