Synthesising previous research, this book presents a unitary treatment of the main effects that occur in the ultra-relativistic interactions between laser beams and electrons. Aimed at scientists, graduate students and professionals working in high-power laser facilities and labs, as well as those studying relativistic optics, the book presents a comprehensive survey of the field.

Autorenporträt
Alexandru Popa was born on June 3, 1943. He graduated from 'Gheorghe Sincai' High School in Bucharest in 1961. He received a Physicist Engineer degree at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in 1966, a Master of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1972, and Doctoral degree at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in 1974. In those years he became interested in physics and mathematics, being fascinated by the incredible accuracy of classical approaches to simple quantum systems and the applications of relativistic theory. The dreams of those years stimulated his theoretical preoccupations, starting from the 1970s, which were related to the modelling of physical systems.Among his achievements, over a period of more than 40 years, are a connection between quantum equations and classical equations for atomic, molecular and electrodynamics systems, a model for calculating the energies of atomic and molecular systems, whose accuracy is comparable to the accuracy of the standard Hartree-Fock model and accurate models of relativistic and ultra-relativistic interactions between laser beams and electrons. His achievements in the field of physical systems modelling were made at the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics from Bucharest, as Senior Researcher Grade I. Since 2016 he is retired, but still works in the field of physical systems modelling. His e-mail is ampopa@rdslink.ro.
