Plant tissue culture has been viewed as a key technology for enhancing the capability for production of large quantities of planting material of selected high yielding varieties/species. As we know, the multipurpose trees (MPTs) have received focused attention of foresters and planners due to their economical and ecological values. While, rapid deforestation and depletion of genetic resources, has put tremendous pressure on the natural stands of several valuable MPTs. Biotechnological approaches especially plant propagation in tissue culture present an important asset for a production link between conservation and sustainable utilization. Woody pants are generally recalcitrant, having complex vegetative life cycle. Besides all these limitations, till-to-date the in vitro culture techniques have successfully been applied to a large number of tree species. This monograph is an attempt to elaborate the intricacies involved in the in vitro regeneration of two very important tree species. The illustrated figures alongwith current review and methodology covering major practical and theoretical aspect may serve as baseline information for future research in the area of tree biotechnology.

Dr. Mohd Kashif Husain is working as a Research Associate (RA-CSIR) in Plant Biotechnology Division of Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR), Jammu. His current research focuses in the areas of Plant Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. He obtained his Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Botany from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, India.
