In 1949, Kathryn Malatesta and Edward Terrence Hallagan met on a blind date at Chicago's Union Station. Kay told Terry she planned to enter a cloistered convent, and Terry convinced her to marry him instead. That marriage lasted 63 years yielding: 12 children, 34 grandchildren and countless great grandchildren. In their free time, Terry created Hallagan Business Machines to support his expanding family and HBM is now 60 years old. Kay mothered a dozen children while writing her weekly Promises To Keep column for the Chicago Daily Defender and working as a social worker at Marillac House on Chicago's West-side. During their golden years, Kay and Terry spent time in Union Pier, Michigan, writing This Bloody Wine.
