The use of pesticides is one of the essential measures of modern agricultural practices in order to protect the crops from different pests. However the residues resulting from the indiscriminate use of pesticides on vegetables and fruits is a major concern in many countries including Pakistan. Moreover, the hazards to health can be minimized to a great extent if these residues are kept below their prescribed safe level (Maximum residue limit i.e. MRL). A field survey was conducted in the major growing areas of fruits and vegetables regarding the use of pesticides by local growers on their farms. In view of an indiscriminate use of pesticides, continuous monitoring for pesticide residues is needed in food crops especially fruits and vegetables in order to protect the grower s interest and consumer health. Fruit and vegetable growers should be properly educated through mass media and training workshops to create awareness about the issue of pesticide residues.
