The book presents seven different dimensions of the current Environment status in India. The dimensions in focus may be Indian in flavour, but have global implications - like any other environmental issue. Whether it be the threat to the mangroves in the Sunderbans and their significant contribution in climate change mitigation through blue carbon storage or the oil spills along the Indian coastline damaging marine biodiversity or the rampant arsenic pollution and the attempts towards phytoremediation or the uncertain fate of the East Kolkata Wetlands, the strive towards restoration, conservation and sustainability remains. A gendered approach to conservation is necessary and prevalent too, promoting innovative, sustainable and equitable conservation thus integrating environment with society and economy, the underlying principle of Sustainable Resource Management.
