At the time Ninja Puppy and the Donut Avalanche was written, Gunner had been having some trouble using self-control at school. In fact, social settings often made Gunner feel nervous and act really silly. One day at school, when he was in the first grade, Gunner got into trouble for being silly in the lunchroom and not listening to the teacher when she told him to stop. He was sent home from school that day as part of his punishment. His mom and dad told him to make good use of his time at home so, that was the day Gunner wrote Ninja Puppy and the Donut Avalanche which is an adorable story about the Ninja family having a little too much fun in the donut shop and making a pretty big mess. The best part is that Gunner completed his second story with a special lesson about using mindfulness to have self-control. Other books currently in this series include Ninja Puppy written in 2019, Ninja Puppy VS Bigfoot written in 2021, and Ninja Puppy in China written in 2022. Gunner J Duck lives with his family in Northwest Arkansas where he enjoys all that life in the Ozarks has to offer. Gunner has always been known throughout his school as being a very precocious reader and a creative artist and storyteller. He was reading books at age 3 and by the time he entered kindergarten, he was reading chapter books, and testing well above his own grade level in all areas. In 2019, at age 5, Gunner's kindergarten teacher suggested that he enter a statewide book writing contest. Gunner wrote his first book titled Ninja Puppy, which won first place in the PBS Kids Writers Contest in Arkansas. He enjoyed writing his first book so much that he decided to work on his very own series. Altogether, his books have won awards in 7 different PBS Kids Writer's Contests to date. Gunner's stories are in many ways, a representation of his life and of the experiences he has had. He hopes that through his books, he can inspire children everywhere to read, imagine, set goals and work hard to reach them, be kind, and have self-control.
