Marcos López participates in each and every one of the images that he has taken and constructed for more than thirty years, which has enabled him to become one of the most well-known Latin American authors of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first. Born in Santa Fe (to the north of Buenos Aires), he eluded his destiny to become a photographer and abandoned his engineering studies to move to the capital during the nineteen eighties. From the beginning, he knew he wanted to be an artist and that he did not want his photographs to be at the service of advertising or the press. Instead he wanted them to appear in exhibitions and museums. In 1993 his first book Retratos (Portraits) was published and in it the two worlds of Marcos López were seen clearly: the excesses of Buenos Aires in the eighties compared with the modesty and flowered wallpaper of Santa Fe.
