"The only impossible journey is the one you never begin" is a motivational quote implored to inspire us all to embrace life's challenges. Jhori's Journey, a children's picture book, illustrates this concept in a creative and concrete manner with the mission to aid in the socio-emotional development of youth. This narrative features the protagonist, a school-aged girl named Jhori, as she embarks on a new journey of personal growth by learning how to navigate her responses to internal and external obstacles. During the reading, the audience will have a chance to follow Jhori as she attains valuable skills with the help of her counselor, teacher, and parents. The audience will also be afforded an opportunity to share his or her own experiences through call and response prompts. Utilizing literature to support mental health has long been recognized for its therapeutic potential. Jhori's Journey complements the goal of wellness that is often emphasized in character development programs. Noting this connection, the target audience for this book is mental health professionals, guidance counselors, and educators whose objective is to equip children with the vital tools necessary to become emotionally healthy individuals.
Autorenporträt
As a licensed clinical social worker with 20 years of experience specializing in offering quality social work services through counseling, advocacy, case management, and consulting, Mackaria knows the value of having access to quality therapeutic materials. In private practice and as a former school social worker, she experienced difficulties obtaining books that thoroughly addressed coping skills in a comprehensive manner through inclusive storytelling. It is from this deficit, the idea of Jhori's Journey was materialized. It is her hope that this narrative fills the void by providing professionals with text that children can relate to and learn from that will transfer into positive behavior in various settings.
