I, and the people and events that made these poems possible, are reaching out to you through the beauty of language. Mass incarceration, especially under the amorphous concepts of conspiracy and intent, must end. One in four Americans has been caught in our prison system at some relatively recent point in time. This trend has become a business, costing taxpayers enormous sums of money.

Evidentiary inference of intent, not the commitment of a crime, got Ms. Carol Sing 36 months in prison and 36 months of probation, or six years of incarceration and the threat of re-incarceration. This pulled the 78-year-old author, with no criminal history, away from her loved ones, away from her valuable environmental work, and away from saving lives.
